Microchipping

When you select a puppy or puppies, this is the time that you can inform us that you want the puppy or puppies microchipped. Microchipping is done when the puppy receives its vaccinations.

At this point in the process, we will collect the remainder of the balance for the puppy and give the new owner their puppy packet. The puppy packet will include AKC registration information, medical records, and microchip information. We also supply a couple days worth of Diamond Naturals dog food.

MOM & PUPPY CARE

A few days before the expected due date, the female is placed in her own private whelping pen, where she is able to nest and relax before the big day. We closely monitor her until we see signs that she is possibly in labor. For the most part, the moms do everything by themselves, and they prefer it that way. This way they can have their puppies at their own pace, but we are always close by monitoring the process and keeping track of the time in between each puppy being born.

Once the female is finished birthing all the puppies, we are careful to make sure that mom has all the fresh water and fresh canned food so she can begin to have the proper milk supply and energy to begin the journey of raising her babies. We have a hands-off policy with the puppies for the first 3–4 days to help mom boost her confidence in caring for her puppies. However, we are always closely monitoring the health and well-being of both the mom and the puppies throughout the whole process.

At 14 days of age, the puppies receive their first set of dewormers, which are given orally every 14 days. Right around this time, the puppies begin to open their eyes and start moving around more. This is the point in the process when our whole family can engage in caring for and playing with the puppies alongside their moms. This way, the puppies are getting interaction with people, and our kids enjoy it as well.

When the puppies are 4 weeks old, we begin the process of weaning them off of their mom. It takes a couple of weeks to fully wean them, but it’s a vital part of the process for the puppies to eat puppy food and be able to go to their furever homes. At 5 weeks of age, the puppies receive their first vaccine, and the microchip is placed if the new owner has requested it. Lastly, the 7–8-week marker is when the puppies go to their new homes and new families.
